1950 Kay Upright Bass w/ Gig Bag. Model C-1.

Travel back in time with this sweet vintage upright bass.
Made by
the late, great Kay Musical Instrument Company
in Chicago, Illinois, back when Chicago was still Music City USA, home of Harmony, Kay, Valco, Ludwig, Werco, Slingerland, Hammond, Lowrey, Lyon & Healy, Deagan, Geib, Kluson, Shure, Jensen etcetera.
The inside paper label
identifies it as a model C-1 with a serial number of 23,695. The serial number indicates it was made back in 1950.
It has ordinary age and play wear all over, with various scuffs, scrapes, and knicks, notably around the edges. From the glue around the neck heel, it looks like it might have had a neck reset at some point in the past. The endpin has a baseball at the end of it.
It’s a classic old All-American upright bass. The strings are older, but it sounds great.
It comes in a modern black vinyl gig bag. The grey foam inside the gig bag has mostly turned to dust.
Unfortunately, it’s too big to ship. So, it’s for sale with local pickup only, here in Chillicothe, Ohio.
